A Shift in Spending Patterns

CNL Lifestyle Properties believes Baby Boomers will spend an increasing percentage of their income on their families as they enter their middle age years. In addition, as their earning power and income continue to grow, their average household spending is rising. As a class, Baby Boomers tend to be healthier, wealthier and better educated than any previous generation. They are also far more numerous.

CNL Lifestyle Properties believes that while their wealth continues to grow, so will their desire to spend more time on leisure-related activities and retail spending for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.

Additionally, the same spending patterns – of both income and time – that apply to Baby Boomers hold true for the “Gen Xers” and “Echo Boomers.” Important psychographic and economic changes – such as an increase in leisure time and expenditures, as well as an increase in disposable income – could translate into a continued leisure-orientation for all three demographic groups. All are influential forces in the lifestyle industries and will continue to create most of the demand for leisure and lifestyle properties.
